Money
Oct. 12th, 2005 | 11:24 am
So I've been spending money like it's going out of style. Yikes.
Got a new car this last weekend...a MINI Cooper S! Whoohoo! She's a fast little booger. I'll probably get into some trouble with her. Aside from that, we have the NYC trip coming up and I just dropped about 500 bones on a dentist trip. Yikes. Apparently, there was some screw up at work and they don't even have me in the system for dental insurance. Awesome. So, I've been making copies of receipts for the people out here so they can work it out.
I'm excited to go to NYC and see some friends. It'll also be cool to see a NY Premiere with my music. It should be a fun time.
Hopefully, my new digital camera (yeah, I spent money on that too) will arrive before the trip so we can take that with us...I'll also post some pics of the new vroom-vroom as well.

You are Wash. Not only are you a great pilot, you
are also the joker of the group. Your devotion
to your wife is admirable, though you sometimes
feel insecure. Thank god you shaved off your
moustache.

A great example of how music, VO, and editing play a part in a movie's marketing campaign. :)

Gold - Quake 4
Raven, id, and Activision announce that Quake 4 is gold, and is due to ship in the U.S. on October 18:
QUAKE 4 PC TO HIT STORE SHELVES IN MID-OCTOBER
Mesquite, TX – October 3, 2005 – id Software™, Raven Software and Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) have confirmed Earth’s invasion of Stroggos with the announcement that QUAKE 4™ PC has entered manufacturing and will begin shipping to retail stores nationwide on Tuesday, October 18. The long awaited sequel to QUAKE II®, QUAKE 4 enlists gamers in the role of Matthew Kane, a member of the Earth Defense Force’s legendary Rhino Squad, to penetrate deep into the heart of the Strogg war machine and engage in a series of heroic missions to destroy the barbaric alien race.
“On October 18, QUAKE is dialing it up to 4.0 on the Richter Scale with this new chapter in Earth’s war against the Strogg,” said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. “Fusing an epic war-story driven single player campaign, and fast-paced QUAKE III Arena® inspired multiplayer, QUAKE 4 delivers a gaming experience fans will be raving about for years.”
Developed by Raven Software and executive produced by id Software, QUAKE 4 begins only moments after the events of QUAKE II, with the Earth’s fleet launching a massive offensive to the planet Stroggos. As Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad, gamers invade the alien stronghold, fighting alone, along side other Marines, and in mechanized walkers and hover tanks as they encounter the Strogg and their disturbing amalgamations of man and machine. Built on id Software’s revolutionary DOOM 3® technology, QUAKE 4 also features fast-paced multiplayer competition modeled after the speed style and feel of QUAKE III Arena.
For more information, fans can visit www.quake4game.com. QUAKE 4 has been rated “M” (Mature) by the ESRB.

And yet...I'm awake.
Don't know what's going on with my sleep schedule, but it's been completely hosed lately. I generally go
through periods of insomnia and this seems to be a zinger. The winning combo is that I'm also getting sick, so I feel doubly horrible right now. Blech.
Work continues on Q4. Ever so. Ever so.
Rach and I booked our flight arrangements to NYC, so that's exciting! It'll be fun to hear my music on a NY stage. The show has a website: http://www.murderingmarlowe.com
Don't know what else to do. Don't want to get the puppy up...I guess I'll listen to the movie version of Rent...

So I've been at work for about 21 days in a row (give or take). Yay!
We're getting close to the finish line, folks!
Teh Rachx0r and I went to see "40 Year Old Virgin" last night and we giggled through the whole thing. It seemed like we were the only ones that were laughing, though. It felt like the audience was pretty young, so maybe they didn't get some of the humor.
Kids today. Pffft.
Steve Carell is just so damn endearing. I didn't like it as much as "Wedding Crashers", but it was still funny.
The best part of the evening was when I went to the bathroom at the theatre and there was a guy tearing ass all over the place in the stall next to me.
TEH RAWK!

Is Jason Robert Brown so freaking awesome?!
I picked up his latest solo album along with Lauren Kennedy's album that is a collection of his stuff.
It's really quite remarkable how spectacular he is...it's almost like some weird amalgamation of Sondheim and Billy Joel.
Also picked up some Guettel stuff as well.
iTunes...I love you.

sometimes I hate people.
Aug. 13th, 2005 | 12:57 pm
I think I'm just in a grouchy mood today. I don't know what's going on. I woke up in a dandy mood, but once I got into Madison this morning, I was just really grumbly. Thinking about stuff that just made me antsy and kinda bummed.
Rach and I have been talking about doing some sort of cabaret here in town, but there are very few venues and people that I really connect with in this town.
I'm finding myself more and more frustrated with the theatre here. I guess it's because I have an incredibly high standard for theatre and I have yet to see or be involved with anything that really lived up to that. I'm not sure if that makes me really arrogant or just an asshole. I haven't made up my mind about that.
I should really start taking in The Rep here in town to see what that's all about. I've seen a number of shows around here, but have never actually taken in the regional stuff. That may be where the crux of my problems lie.
I guess I get really tired of people that think that the show they are currently in is a piece of art and will challenge the world and how people view theatre, when in actuality, it's basically a large piece of pretentious BS without any thought of direction, acting, vision, symbolism, or artistry.
I guess there is such a movement of people that are completely proud of themselves and can't see past their own mediocrities. I have much more respect for people that are constantly trying to make something better. People that look at something and say "You know, that's pretty cool, but it could be SO much more! What could we do to make it so? Let's discuss and work on it." But in actuality, a lot of groups here in town seem to say, "God, we're doing such great theatre! I'm crying it's so good!"...after the first rehearsal. I think it really comes down to laziness.
I understand that the vast majority of the theatres here in town are on the community level, so everyone has lives outside of that. I totally understand that.
I guess I'm so used to LIVING that environment from day to day. It became a way of life. We would constantly workshop stuff. We were constantly reading plays and listening to musicals on an analytical level, desperately tearing things apart to see what made them great. We studied the classics, we stayed up to date on contemporary pieces and playwrights. We were striving for artistry. We were never complacent or static...at least, I don't think we were. I don't know...maybe we were just drunk.
Again, I'm sure this post comes across as remarkably arrogant, asinine, and a lot of people will see me as a total dick for saying this, but I guess it comes down to, I miss my friends. I miss my theatre. I miss that electrical charge of being apart of something truly theatrical with people that you really connect with.
